What to Bring on a Yacht Charter in Cabo
Packing correctly for your private yacht charter in Cabo San Lucas ensures you stay comfortable, compliant with marina rules, and ready to enjoy the day without overpacking. Here is the practical checklist of essentials.
The Absolute Essentials
- Sun Protection: The Baja sun is intense, even in winter. Bring a hat (preferably with a strap so it doesn't blow away), polarized sunglasses, and a UV-protective long-sleeve shirt (rash guard) if you plan to swim.
- Reef-Safe Sunscreen: Traditional sunscreens with oxybenzone damage coral reefs and marine life. We strongly encourage biodegradable, reef-safe sunscreen. Apply it before boarding to avoid making the deck slippery.
- Identification: The Mexican Navy and Port Captain require valid ID for passengers boarding vessels. A driver's license or a clear photo of your passport on your phone is usually sufficient.
- Payment/Cash: Bring a credit card or cash to settle any remaining balance, pay for dock fees (if not included), and for the crew gratuity at the end of your trip. (See our guide on How much to tip).
Clothing & Footwear
Comfort is key. Wear your swimsuit under light, breathable clothing. The ocean breeze can make it surprisingly cool, especially on late afternoon or sunset charters, so always pack a light sweater, windbreaker, or long-sleeve cover-up.
The Barefoot Rule: To protect the teak decks and fiberglass finishes, almost all luxury yachts operate a strict "barefoot" policy. You will be asked to remove your shoes and leave them in a designated basket before boarding. Bring sandals or flip-flops that are easy to slip off.
Health & Wellness
If you or anyone in your group is prone to motion sickness, take medication (like Dramamine) at least an hour before boarding. Once you are on the water and start feeling ill, medication is rarely effective. Also, bring any personal prescription medications you might need during the duration of the trip.
What to Leave Behind
- Towels: Check your specific charter inclusions, but our luxury yachts provide clean towels for all guests.
- Bulky luggage: Space is limited on boats. Bring a soft tote bag or backpack instead of hard-sided luggage or coolers.
- Spray sunscreen: Spray sunscreens stain the yacht's cushions and make the deck dangerously slippery. Please bring lotion instead.
- Dark-soled shoes: If the crew allows shoes, they must be light-soled deck shoes. Dark soles leave permanent scuff marks on the deck.
